Long tailbacks were reported on a main road following a crash where a woman had to be cut from a car.
Two vehicles collided at about 5pm on the A20 Ashford Road eastbound at Dickley Lane, with congestion stretching back to Church Road.
The accident happened as one vehicle exited the Lenham Road Service Station igniting an emergency services response.
A man and woman have been rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 5.11pm on Tuesday 5 June regarding a collision involving two cars on Maidstone Road, Lenham.
Officers, South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue attended the scene where one of the drivers who was trapped in her car was assisted out of the vehicle and treated for injuries.
"The other driver was also treated for injuries and both were taken to a local hospital for further medical attention.
"Officers remain at the scene awaiting recovery of both cars. The road remains open to traffic at present."
Highways officials said traffic returned to normal at around 6.50pm.
