Custard bath for 'bucket list' man

Sorry, this video asset has been removed.

When Ian Mitcheson said he was prepared to do anything to help
the Pilgrims Hospice he did not expect that it would involve
dressing up as a sunflower and sitting in a bath of custard.

Last week Mr Mitcheson played his part in the “Go Yellow”
campaign by doing just that to encourage people to raise money for
the hospice which helps him.

Just over a year ago Mr Mitcheson, who is 43 and lives in
Hawkinge, was diagnosed with terminal cancer after he put off being
checked for prostate cancer.

By the time he went to the doctors the cancer had spread to his
spine and he was told he would not live see his children become
adults.

Mr Mitcheson, who regularly attends the hospice, is trying to
make the best of the time he has left and is urging people to “Go
Yellow” and take up any kind of yellow-themed challenge this summer
to raise money for the hospice.

Just after Mr Mitcheson sat in the custard bath, hospice nurses
did their bit by dressing in yellow and throwing wet sponges at one
another.

As well as taking up silly challenges, Mr Mitcheson is spending
his time trying to encourage other men to get checked at the
doctors and also carrying out a wish list of life-long
ambitions.

The Kentish Express has been tracking Mr Mitcheson’s so-called
“Bucket List”, of things he wants to achieve before he “kicks the
bucket”.

The list includes items as diverse as learning how coffee is
made and driving a ferrari.

The Pilgrims Hospice is holding a fete from 12-4pm on
Saturday, August 1 at the hospice on Hythe Road.

The Go Yellow campaign runs throughout July and
August.
