Jamie Staff resumed his partnership with fellow Olympic gold medallists Chris Hoy and Jason Kenny to win the team sprint event at the national track championships in Manchester.

Ashford-born Staff was competing for the Sky +HD team at the Manchester Velodrome and they beat the North-West Region team in the final by over a second in a quick time of 43.170 seconds.

The trio took gold in Beijing last year in a winning time of 43.128 secs with Staff clocking a record opening leg time of 17.19 secs on the 750m course.

Staff’s gold on Friday betters his last outing at the Lancashire venue where last year he won silver at the world championships.

The velodrome this week plays host to the opening leg of the UCI World Cup series where Staff will again line up for the Sky +HD team.
