Developer funded lorry lady's campaign

A pro-lorry park campaign has been partly funded by a property developer with the option to buy land earmarked for such a site.

Monserat, run Dr Rehan ul-Haq, sent Margaret Pryke cheques totalling £3,000 to continue her fight.

The company's money paid for the banner that Mrs Pryke - known as the lorry lady - carried last year when she led a demonstration on Orbital Park, Ashford.

Monserat has done a deal with the owner of the land near Aldington where the proposed lorry park could be built, meaning the property company will have first refusal on the site.

Dr ul-Haq, whose company has had the options on the land since 2001, said of Mrs Pryke: “Because her campaign supports the work, the company decided to give her a donation."

Mrs Pryke said: “I’m campaigning for a lorry park but I don’t care who builds it.”

Dr ul-Haq is behind a wider £120million development plan for Ashford.
