A community has been left in a state of shock after two people were killed on their way home after a night out.
Mother-of-three Denise Head, 49, and Brian Moon, 67 died after being struck by a car in Beaver Road, Ashford as they walked back from a social club at around 12.15am on Sunday.
Since the incident a steady stream of friends and relatives have visited the scene to pay their tributes or lay flowers.
Three others were also injured, including a a 12-year-old girl.
Mourners have gathered at the scene, many of them in tears and hugging each other.
Flowers were initially left at site of the tragedy, outside a house where the wall was badly damaged by the impact.
But police and PCSOs later moved them to a nearby grass bank, to prevent another accident, as passing drivers were distracted by them.
A Slovakian man appeared in court on Monday charged with causing the death of two people by dangerous driving.
Stefan Stanko, 24, of West Street , Gravesend, appeared in connection with the deaths Denise Head amd Mr Moon.
He is also charged with driving after consuming excess alcohol and failing to stop after the incident.
Speaking through an interpreter at Ashford Magistrates’ Court, Mr Stanko simply confirmed his name, address and date of birth.
Magistrates remanded him in custody. He will appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, October 12.
