Range Rover Evoque seized following crash on A2070 near Bridgefield in Ashford

An uninsured driver fled the scene after he crashed his girlfriend's 4x4 - leaving her injured at the roadside.

Police were called to the accident on the A2070 near Bridgefield in Ashford just before midnight yesterday.

When they arrived, they found a woman who had been travelling in the black Range Rover Evoque as a passenger at the scene but the driver was nowhere to be seen.

Officers carried out an extensive search of the area but were unable to locate him.

As he was not insured to drive the vehicle, the 4x4 - which is believed to belong to his girlfriend - was seized.

A police spokeswoman said: "We were called to a road traffic accident at 11.45pm on Monday, August 26.

"No arrests were made as we were unable to locate the driver, inquiries were carried out and the car was seized.

"Ambulance crews did not attend but the woman went to hospital for treatment.

"The structural brickwork of the roundabout was damaged and highways were made aware of this."
