Almost 60 people were stopped and checked at Ashford and Folkestone railway stations in a drugs crackdown.

Kent Police joined British Transport Police in the operation, where officers were aided by passive drugs dogs, trained to sniff out those in possession of substances.

Fifteen people were stopped and searched at Ashford and one person was arrested over an immigration matter.

Another 40 were stopped and searched at Folkestone, where one was arrested for possession of cannabis and got an on-the-street caution.

The operation, to deal with both the use and supply of drugs, also extended to Dover station. Again, 40 people there were stopped and searched and one was arrested for cannabis possession and cautioned.
