Billionaire Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites were spotted by residents over Kent last night.
The eye-catching lights were caught on camera in Kingsnorth, in Ashford and over Westwood Cross shopping centre, in Broadstairs.
The pattern of lights matches that of the Starlink satellites, operated by Musk’s company SpaceX.
According to Starlink’s website, it is “the world's first and largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to deliver broadband internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, video calls and more”.
Daniel Francklin was on a walk with his daughter in Broadstairs last night when he noticed the “straight line of stars”.
“We just walked back from the shop and it was a super clear night. There was hardly any light pollution,” he said.
“The straight line of stars were moving together perfectly spaced and heading towards Westwood Cross.
“My little one, who is two years old, loved it and kept shouting twinkle stars as we watched them pass over!”
The bright satellites were also pictured in Ashford and one resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he “could not believe what he was seeing”.
He added: “I had to double take when I saw the lights. I did not know what they were!
“It was a very dark and clear night, the whole thing was quite eerie.
“My initial thought was that they were stars, but they were in too much of a straight line.”
This is not the first time the businessman’s satellites have been pictured over Kent – they were captured over Radnor Park, in Folkestone last October.
Musk - who also owns social media site X, formerly known as Twitter - is the richest man in the world with a total net worth of US$232 billion, according to Bloomberg.
He previously revealed his goal for the £7 billion pound Starlink project is to deliver super fast broadband internet around the world by "enveloping the Earth" with up to 42,000 satellites.
Musk's company was given the green light in 2020 to challenge the UK's terrestrial internet providers and other companies such as BT.
