A much-loved Kent celebrity who sadly died earlier this year has received praise after one of his TV shows picked up a National Television Award (NTA).
Tributes were paid to the late Paul O’Grady, from Aldington, after Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs won the accolade for Factual Entertainment Programme at last night’s ceremony.
A post has since been shared on the comedian’s Instagram page, along with pictures showing members of the team accepting the award his behalf.
And of course, a four-legged friend was in attendance too.
“We wanted to take a moment to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted for Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs at the NTAs,” the post said.
“Your support means the world to us, and it’s a true testament to the incredible work Paul O’Grady has done for dogs and all animals.
“We couldn’t have done it without your unwavering support.
“It’s a moment of celebration not only for us but for all those furry friends who benefit from Paul’s dedication and passion.”
It went on to toast O’Grady and thank viewers for voting for the ITV show.
“So, here’s to Paul O’Grady and his tireless efforts in making the world a better place for our beloved animals. We raise a glass in his honour and look forward to continuing our mission to help those in need,” it continued.
“Thank you once again for your votes and for being a part of our journey.”
The post has received more than 30,000 likes.
During the ceremony, a touching video tribute was played showing footage of O’Grady over the years.
The TV presenter sadly died on March 28 this year, leaving behind his husband Andre Portasio.
On his official death certificate, it confirmed the star's death was from sudden cardiac arrhythmia which the British Heart Foundation describes as a cardiac arrest with no known cause.
The beloved star rose to fame with his drag queen persona Lily Savage in the 1980s and 1990s before going on to host a string of television shows.
His funeral was held in the village of Aldington, where villagers and their dogs lined the streets to see his coffin pass.
