A fine-dining restaurant is to close after four months because the impact of the pandemic proved "an impossible challenge" for the venture to overcome.
The Gastronomist Club, located under the Travelodge hotel at Elwick Place in Ashford, opened its doors at the end of May and promised diners "bold" six-course tasting menus based around seasonal Kentish produce.
However the owners today announced the venue will close at the end of this month.
A statement released by email earlier reads: "Despite receiving wonderful reviews and having an increasing network of regular clients, the impact of Covid has proved an impossible challenge for us to overcome. The slow growth of sales has made business unsustainable at the present time.
"Most of all we are very sad to have to say goodbye to our incredible team who have worked relentlessly to successfully deliver our creative vision.
"We are taking a break for the moment to consider the next steps for The Gastronomist Club. We hope there will be a more opportune time in the future to offer curated fine dining to the local community."
Alongside weekly ticketed events, wine tastings and other experiences, bosses at the restaurant had also hoped to stage collaborations with international chefs and 'meet the producer' evenings.
Tickets for a six-course tasting menu event due to take place on Saturday, October 2, were advertised online at £89 per person.
"We want to thank everyone who has supported us through our pre and post-opening," today's statement concluded.
"We are grateful for all the fantastic guests who joined us for so many memorable and enjoyable events and experiences in Ashford."
