Firefighters battled flames after a fire broke out in the first-floor bedroom of a terraced house.
The call was received shortly before 11am today where crews arrived within minutes to the house in Lynsted Close on the Stanhope estate in Ashford.
The firefighters had to use hose reel jets and a main jet to prevent the fire spreading to the rest of the house and neighbouring properties.
According to a statement from the fire service the blaze destroyed the bedroom. The rest of the house was lightly smoke damaged.
The team used a pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke and fumes, while at the same time cutting away and damping down to make sure all the hot spots were out.
A tenant at the house said she came home from work to find the fire in her son's bedroom. He suffered burnt eyebrows and minor injuries as he escaped the fire.
Her son has lost most of his possessions, including his bed and clothing.
