Firefighters were called to a Chinese restaurant along a busy main road after a blaze broke out in a property above.
Crews were called to the Jasmine House Chinese Cuisine restaurant off the A20 at Charing, near Ashford at 5pm on Sunday.
The fire brigade reported that crews used special breathing masks and a hose reel jet to douse the flames.
A spokesman at the restaurant said the fire was in a space used above the restaurant, believed to be a staff resting room.
He said that one fire engine was sent to the scene and and hadn't caused problems for the restaurant itself, which has remained open.
He added that fire crews remained at the scene on Sunday evening to investigate the cause.
