Fire crews tackled a car blaze in Godinton Lane, Ashford.
A mother and son had a narrow escape when the Vauxhall Zafira they were travelling in caught on fire.
Firefighters rushed to the scene opposite the Hare and Hounds on the A20 cross roads around 9pm last night.
One fire engine was sent to the scene and spent around 40 minutes tackling the flames.
Watch Manager Mark Thomas said crews believe the fire probably started as a result of an electrical fault.
He said: "A son had been taking his mum shopping when their vehicle caught fire.
"They quickly pulled over, got out of the car and called us, which is the right thing to do."
The car was completely gutted in the blaze.
