Wood chippings fire in Nickley Wood Road, Shadoxhurst

Firefighters spent more than 10 hours tackling a large fire at Shadoxhurst.

Two fire engines and a water unit were called to Nickley Wood Road at 1.50am this morning where approximately 20 tonnes of wood chippings were burning. Crews used a hose reel and rakes to tackle the blaze.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "There was no fire spread to the surrounding woodland, crews were on scene for a considerable amount of time to ensure the remaining wood chippings were cooled to prevent reignition."

Firefighters left the scene at 11.22am. No one was hurt and the cause of the fire is still unknown.
