A street was closed off and residents evacuated following reports of a fire underneath a pavement.
Emergency services were called to Jemmett Road, South Ashford, yesterday evening.
Workers from Southern Gas Network and UK Power Networks also attended after no signs of fire were found.
There were reports of a gas leak, however the issue has now been established as an electrical fault.
A fire service spokeswoman said crews remained at the scene to "ensure it was safe, and helped to evacuate nearby residents".
The cause of the incident has since been established as a fault with an underground cable.
A UK Power Networks spokeswoman said: "Engineers worked as quickly as possible to restore electricity supplies to customers in the Jemmett Road area of Ashford last night.
"A fault on an underground cable interrupted supplies to 333 customers at 8.10pm and supplies were restored in stages by 9.45pm.
"We would like to apologise to residents for the inconvenience caused."
