The Countess of Wessex was in Kent today to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ashford based market research agency Facts International.
Wearing cream trousers, a black blazer and carrying a clutch bag, the Countess toured the firm’s Henwood premises and chatted to colleagues and clients.
She spoke with ease to staff, jokingly asking them if they were working hard and noting that their desks were tidy, unlike her own office.
She was also introduced to the company’s three apprentices, Kieran Farmer, Matthew Johnson and Jack Kelly, and interviewer Philip Smith, who has been at Facts for eight years.
She asked the young apprentices about their roles and responsibilities and whether they thought enough was being done to encourage young people to apply for them.
Matthew Johnson, 22, from Brabourne, said: “I thought maybe she would ask us one question, but she seemed really interested. She was lovely.”
Kieran Farmer, also 22, and from Park Farm, said: “It felt really rewarding after all the hard work.
“She seemed really down to earth and asked us a lot of questions.”
After, the Countess - who is the Queen's daughter-in-law - joined colleagues, families and representatives from the council, local schools and from the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Trust for a drinks reception.
It was here she unveiled a plaque.
Speaking at the reception, chief executive Crispin Beale said: “This is a truly wonderful day for Facts International.
“Now we all know that our founder Barbara Lee has huge foresight but I suspect that never in her wildest dreams did she think our 30th birthday would be marked in such an incredibly special way.”
Mr Beale also thanked the Countess for joining them on their special day.
Addressing the crowd, the Countess said: “Thank you so much for having me today. I have really enjoyed the visit.”
She also added: “It is nice to go around and actually know what people are talking about” - referring to her background in PR.
She then congratulated Facts on their 30th anniversary.
