Folkestone Fish Festival cancelled due to strong winds

The organisers of the Folkestone Fish Festival have announced their decision to cancel large parts of the event, in the face of bad weather.

In an announcement on the festival’s social media sites, a spokesman said: “Unfortunately it has now been decided that the Folkestone Fish Festival today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday) has been completely cancelled.

“Dover Coastguard has informed us that gale winds up to force eight are to be expected today and tomorrow.

“All Chef Demos and music acts have been cancelled today and tomorrow.”

Some planned events will still go ahead, including The Kentish Ale and Cider Bar stall hosted by The Chambers Bar, Folkestone, which will now take place at the Cheriton Place bar.

The Fish Pie Contest outside the Mariners Pub on Sunday at 1pm will still go ahead, as will The Blessing Of The Fisheries at 3pm.
