Folkestone manager Neil Cugley says he cannot wait to get back to football this weekend, claiming he has never known a summer as quiet as this one.

The Invicta boss welcomes his squad back for pre-season training on Saturday having been inactive in the transfer market this summer.

Cugley (pictured) said: "I can’t wait to get going. I think everyone is more up for it once the summer championships are over and you start looking ahead again.

"I think we are all looking forward to getting back out there."

He revealed: "I have never known it to be this quiet.

"It’s got to be the quietest summer in all the years I have been here – the phone has hardly been ringing.

"We wanted to keep most of the squad from last season together, and we got that done nice and early, and we aren’t really in a position financially to bring anyone in.

"We’ll have a couple along to pre-season to see what they have got, but to be honest they’ve got to show they are better than what we’ve got, and that’s not going to be easy."

A pre-season friendly with Carshalton Athletic, scheduled for Saturday, August 4, at the Buzzlines Stadium, has been called off and a clash with Margate will now take place at Hartsdown Park on Tuesday, July 31.

Cugley said: "Pre-season is going to be fairly low-key. It’s not like we’re bringing in eight or nine new faces and trying to build a team.

"We have a small squad, very settled, and most of them have played together for a long time."
