Folkestone boss Neil Cugley is feeling the frustration as injuries to his small squad continue to hamper his preparations for the new season.

With their Ryman League, Premier Division opener against Croydon Athletic just nine days away, Cugley, pictured, has still not been able to field his first choice side.

"We are playing good football but we keep picking up injuries – it’s very frustrating," he said.

"Ollie Bartrum had to go off early on Saturday (against Leatherhead), Jimmy Dryden’s still not 100 per cent fit and James Everitt hasn’t even played yet because of his bad back.

"Then, for the first league game, we’ve got Michael Everitt and Rob Kember suspended and Josh Burchell is away. It does make things difficult."

Invicta remain unbeaten in pre-season after two 2-2 draws with Leatherhead and Ramsgate. They travel to Whitstable on Saturday and Chatham on Monday.

"With the squad being the size it is, I have to be careful," Cugley added. "I’d like to go and put my best side out, but I can’t afford to do that.

"Some of the youngsters will get another go. They’ve got 180 minutes before the season starts and there’s a place or two in the side to play for."
