MANAGER Neil Cugley admitted Tuesday had been a big night for Folkestone Invicta with a win over Dover in the Kent Senior Cup coupled with helpful results in Ryman League Division 1 South.
While Simon Austin scored twice as Folkestone dumped the Whites out of the Kent Senior Cup with a 2-0 win in front of more than 500 fans at Buzzlines Stadium, Invicta’s title rivals Worthing and Croydon Athletic were suffering home defeats.
Invicta now go into Saturday’s home game with Merstham and Tuesday’s bumper clash at Croydon nine points clear of second-placed Worthing with two games in hand.
After Saturday’s 2-1 win over Chipstead and Tuesday’s win over a second-string Dover side, Cugley (pictured) said: "The Cup is not our main priority but it was good for us to keep going and keep the momentum going.
"Confidence is high in the squad at the moment so we will just keeping rolling on."
He added: "We went to Merstham earlier this season and we ended up hanging on for a draw. They are a good side.
"Croydon are the ones who a lot of people expected to win the league, they have got some good players and they have the finance to back it up. It will be a big game."
Keeper Jack Delo has a groin strain and was replaced by Luke Stonebridge late on Tuesday. He could miss both games but Liam Dickson should return after suffering a broken nose against Chipstead.
Off-the-field issues are set to return to the spotlight next week when a formal meeting is held to discuss and ratify a proposed voluntary settlement with Invicta’s creditors designed to end the club’s ‘financial paralysis.’
The meeting at Stripes on Friday night will clarify an agreement reached between the Folkestone Invicta Recovery Group and HM Revenue and Customs designed to stabilise the club’s finances.
It is unclear whether the move could lead to Invicta incurring a points deduction from the Ryman League or the FA.
