Neil Cugley is closing in on a striker and hopes to unveil his man before Folkestone Invicta’s home match with Tooting & Mitcham on Tuesday.
Folkestone aren’t in action on Saturday as scheduled visitors to the Buzzlines Stadium, Carshalton Athletic, are involved in the FA Cup.
Invicta boss Cugley has seen his side struggle in front of goal for some time – they haven’t scored more than one goal in any of their opening 11 Ryman League Premier Division fixtures – and he’s keen to act.
Cugley (pictured) said: "We’re getting closer to signing someone. Even when we won promotion we weren’t scoring many goals. I would like us to score more and be a bit better going forward."
"We could have the new lad in by Tuesday and if it doesn’t happen by then, I imagine it won’t."
One of Cugley’s top strikers, Jimmy Dryden, has been out injured and is still several weeks off returning.
The rest this weekend, however, will give time for other players to recover.
Paul Jones is rated at 50-50 to be involved in their next match, while Olly Bartrum (knee) could feature for the reserves on Saturday.
