Neil Cugley has completed Folkestone Invicta’s summer transfer dealing with the capture of experienced midfielder Rob Kember.
The former Crystal Palace youngster, who has enjoyed spells at Woking, Crawley and most recently Bromley, is expected to give Cugley’s young side valuable experience in the middle of the park.
The 28-year-old will take over some of the duties vacated by Jimmy Jackson, who helped Invicta win promotion from Ryman League Division 1 South last season, before being forced to retire through injury.
Invicta boss Cugley (pictured) said: "Rob is one that I’ve wanted all along and we’ve been waiting on. He will be a useful signing for us, he’s a bit more of an experienced head and we’re going to need that."
Cugley said he was hopeful his small squad would could be bolstered further once pre-season has started.
He said: "With Rob coming in I think that gives us 13 signed on, so obviously we are on lower numbers than even last year. We’ll have to try and avoid suspensions and injuries but going up a league and playing a higher standard will make it tough.
"Hopefully once pre-season has started we’ll be able to look at the loan market and perhaps get some dual-registration deals in place."
Cugley revealed that former midfielder Stuart White was given a colourful send-off on Tuesday.
The former Ashford and Welling man died in a car crash in South Africa last month and following his funeral near Ashford, many former colleagues from the Kent football community gathered at Ashford Town’s Homelands ground to celebrate his life.
