Neil Cugley believes Folkestone Invicta are ready to start the new season now with a month still to go before the Ryman League, Premier Division kicks off.
The Cheriton Road boss watched his side beat Division 1 South new boys Faversham 2-1 in their first pre-season run out at Salters Lane on Tuesday night.
Returning Paul Jones got the winner after a defensive mix-up led to the home side’s equaliser. Josh Burchell had given Invicta an early lead.
Cugley said: "We did well, looked quite comfortable and played some good stuff at times.
"Paul has signed, played almost the whole game and was sharp and busy. He has shed a lot of weight and looks good.
"James Everitt was the only player to miss out, resting a bad back."
Invicta don’t play again until Saturday week, when they travel to Kent League Lordswood but Cugley is not unduly concerned.
He said: "We will continue to train three times a week but we have a small squad, know our team and the way we want to play. I think we could start tomorrow."
