Folkestone renew their rivalry with Croydon Athletic on Saturday and Invicta boss Neil Cugley has admitted they have become the bane of his life.

Folkestone were beaten to the Ryman League, Division 1 South title by Athletic last season when the Kent side were given a 10-point deduction after financial problems.

The Surrey side also beat Invicta 2-0 in the opening game of this season at Cheriton Road, although Folkestone are above them in the Ryman League Premier Division standings despite working on a tight budget.

Cugley said: "Croydon have become the bane of my life.

"They had lots of money when they beat us to the Division 1 title last year and when they beat us at the start of this season, then they appeared to lose it all and now they’ve got it again just before they play us."

Ex-Folkestone keeper Charlie Mitten is likely to face his old club after making his Athletic debut last weekend at another former side, Margate. The stopper kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win.

"Charlie is a great lad and a good keeper and stayed with us after other players left," said Cugley.

"I look forward to seeing him – hopefully picking the ball out of the net!"

Mitten, who left Folkestone just over a year ago, and was released by Welling earlier this season, is among several new players recruited by Athletic.
