POLICE at Ashford are renewing their appeal for information following a collision between a bicycle and a car which happened on Sunday, September 24.

The male cyclist had come out of Tithe Barn Lane at the junction with A28 and was cycling around the roundabout to go back down Tithe Barn Lane between 2.30pm-3pm.

A dark coloured Landrover Discovery and the bicycle were in collision, and the cyclist was thrown up onto the bonnet. The Landrover stopped, blocking the nearside lane with the bonnet jutting into the offside lane.

Police spokeswoman Rosemary Alexander said: "The cyclist appeared uninjured at the time, and did not require Kent Ambulance Team attendance.

"However, his condition later deteriorated and he was admitted to hospital a few days later with serious spinal injuries. He has since been discharged and is recovering."

The cyclist was wearing a fluorescent green Tour de France sprinters top, and a white helmet. The bike he was riding was red and silver.

Officers investigation the collision would like to speak to drivers and pedestrians who were in the area of the junction and roundabout at Tithe Barn Lane and the A28 that Sunday. It was a clear and sunny day, and the road was busy.

In particular they would like to talk to the driver of a blue or light purple Ford Ka. It is believed the woman driver was blond and wearing hoped gold earrings. Two passengers were in the car, and the rear passenger was wearing a baseball hat.

They would also like to speak to a man driving a light gold Mercedes. He is thought to be in his late 30s and has brown hair. He was wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses.

PC Laura Perez said: "In view of the serious injuries sustained by the cyclist, which were not apparent until some time after the collision, it is important that we contact and speak to as many witnesses as possible in connection with this incident.”
