A post-mortem examination carried out in Ashford this week revealed that he died primarily from multiple stab wounds.

The examination at the William Harvey Hospital also found that he had suffered a fractured tibia (shinbone).

The inquest was opened on Wednesday at Folkestone Magistrates Court.

Coroner's officer Adam Trewerne said that Mr Buchanan-Browne, who was born in Belfast, was identified by a passport photograph.

He was married to a woman called Binta Ishaku and has two children.

Rachel Redman, coroner for Central and South East Kent, adjourned the inquest for a date to be fixed.

A report on Mr Buchanan-Browne's death in an Accra newspaper said he was found dead in his hotel room by a housekeeper who had gone to the room to clean it and discovered his body in the bathroom.
