The Ashford area is fast becoming the land of the lookalikey.

First it was a tree in The Warren in Ashford that 76-year-old Frank Smith of Grantley Close, Bond Road, Ashford, persuaded us looked like a dinosaur so we christened it 'Tree-Rex'.

Then Cliff Boulton convinced us that a piece of wood he’d spotted while out walking his dog Oz in Dering Woods, near Pluckley resembled a meerkat.

And now the Kentish Express has discovered its own lookalike.

We reckon the big demolition machine that's been tearing down Ashdown Court in Canterbury Road for the past fortnight is a dead ringer for a giant dinosaur.

The machine's giant jaw has been making light work of ripping down the eyesore that's been empty now for several years.

In fact, work on clearing the former block of council flats is now nearing completion, with just one corner section of the large building alongside Hardinge Road due to bite the dust early next week, once engineers have disconnected the electricity supply.

Once demolition finishes and all the rubble is crushed and removed a new batch of affordable housing will be constructed on the prominent site.

Land owner Affinity Sutton is to build two three-bedroom houses, 20 two-bedroom apartments and five one-bedroom apartments on the site.

The work is expected to be completed by spring next year.
