An eight-year-old girl was rescued by firefighters on Saturday night after a lock on her bedroom door failed.

The crew was called to Finn Farm Road in Ashford at about 7pm and used a selection of hand tools to release the door.

Watch manager Mark Thomas said: "We rescued the young lady and mummy was very happy.

"The lock had failed in a brand new house.

"They were not in distress, the girl was a bit weepy and a bit frightened, but we saved the day."
