Olympic gold medal winner Jamie Staff says he hopes to take part in the London 2012 games.

The Ashford cyclist, who partnered Jason Kenny and Chris Hoy to scoop victory in Beijing in the team sprint, told of his plans after arriving home this week.

He said he already had his sights set on the London games, even though he will be 39 when he competes in them.

And he urged others to fight to achieve their goals, and be inspired by his achievements.

He said: "I am just an average person who works hard and has achieved something.

"I am not special. Hopefully I can maybe inspire people to get out there and make something of their lives and careers.

"If I can inspire someone that's great."

Jamie, whose parents Alan and Christine, both 61, live at Brabourne, near Ashford, first made his name as a world-class BMX rider but in 2001 he turned to track cycling in an attempt to chase Olympic glory.
