Keeping warm at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park gorillas have swapped fresh fruit for jacket potatoes.
Despite the closure of the park near Hythe during the worst of the weather it remained busy behind the scenes as keepers kept the animals warm.
Animal Director, Adrian Harland said: “All the animals that require it have access to heated areas, and keepers are taking special measures such as increasing the amount and calorific content of food that the animals are given. "This includes giving gorillas at the park hot baked potatoes for an extra burst of warmth, and to help keep their diet varied and interesting.”
The park closed last Friday and remained closed over the weekend after running out of grit.
The grit the park did have had to be used in giraffe and elephant enclosures to stop them slipping over. The park has now re-opened.
