Four charged with aggravated burglary in Laurens Van Der Post Way, Ashford

A group, including two teenagers, have been charged after an aggravated burglary.

Police were called to Ashford just before midnight on Friday, July 21, after the incident which happened at a property in Laurens Van Der Post Way.

Officers attended and a vehicle was stopped just under an hour later by armed police in Swanstree Avenue, Sittingbourne, in relation to the offence.

Locals reported seeing as many as six police cars at the scene after the group were stopped in the early hours of Saturday.

Following an investigation by East Kent CID, Ella Steadman, 21, of Bowens Field, Ashford; Jack Grindley, 20, of Riverbank Way, Ashford; Leon Melson, 19, of Tennyson Road, Ashford, and a 17-year-old boy, have all be charged with aggravated burglary.

All four were due before Folkestone Magistrates' Court on July 24. The case was adjourned to Canterbury Crown Court on August 21.

Grindley and Melson were remanded in custody and Steadman and the 17-year-old boy were released on conditional bail.
