Retailer H&M has confirmed its store in Ashford will close in two weeks time.

The Swedish fashion retailer joined the County Square shopping centre in 2008 as part of the mall's multi-million pound extension.

Now, after 14 years, signs in the shop window say its last day will be Sunday, March 13.

It reads: "Thank you for shopping with us Ashford.

"This store closes on March 13.

"Find everything you need in our nearby Canterbury Store."

A spokesman at H&M continued: "At H&M we continuously review our store portfolio, the decision to close this particular store was part of the long-term strategy to ensure we are offering our customers the best possible shopping experience in the right locations.

"Customers can continue to shop for quality fashion at the best price at our nearby stores or online at hm.com."

Bosses at County Square say they will be sad to see the store go.

A spokeswoman added: "We understand that H&M are focusing on their growing online business and have chosen to close a number of physical stores.

"The County Square store is due to close on March 13.

"The new owners and property managers of County Square are naturally sad to see an established tenant go.

"They are reviewing matters and look forward to working with new tenants and operators in line with their investment and asset management strategies."

Last year, H&M revealed plans to shut more than 200 stores despite an increase in profit for 2021.

Sale racks at the front of the store are now offering items from £3.

Speculation about the store's fate began earlier this month when a 'final sale' sign was put up in the front window and around the store.
