A little girl from Ashford is hoping to track down the pen pal she met on holiday in Greece.

Madison Geering, eight, instantly hit it off with Ruby when their families stayed at the 5* Annabelle Beach Resort in Crete last July.

The two girls met by the pool and spent their time playing in the water and getting drinks to keep cool in the hot sun.

Before Ruby left for home, the two sets of parents swapped addresses, hoping the new friends would keep in touch through letters.

However, Charmaine Ward, Madison’s mum, says they lost the address and therefore couldn’t write to Ruby, believed to be from the Warrington or Liverpool area.

Miss Ward, 31, from Park Farm, said: “Ruby was slightly younger than Madison, maybe six.

"But they were really similar, both confident and bouncing around.

“They had a good time together, swimming and getting drinks. They really clicked.

“I think her mum’s name was Gemma, and they might have been there with her parents. Gemma was pregnant so will have two children by now.

“We both said that children having pen pals was a good thing, and we thought this would be a good start.”

However, without Ruby’s address, all hope of keeping in touch was lost. But then this week, Madison received a letter from Ruby.

Miss Ward, who is marrying Madison’s dad Matthew in June, said: “It was quite a long letter. She’d written about the holiday and talked about her Easter break, and then said she hoped to hear back.

“However the return address was not included.”

The only clue Miss Ward and Madison have to Ruby's and her family’s location is the Warrington Mail Centre stamp on the envelope.

In an attempt to track them down, Miss Ward put a post on Facebook which has been shared more than 1,000 times.

She also tagged the post at the mail centre and in Warrington in general.

She adds: “Madison was so excited when she got the letter. She hasn’t forgotten about Ruby.

“She told me off for losing the address.

“In our last days on holiday, Madison even bought a bracelet for Ruby, which she was going to send her. She still has it now.”
