The 15-year-old, who goes to Homewood School, Tenterden, lifted the title at Bearsted Golf Club on Monday when 52 boys and a record 11 girls took part.

His score of one under par 70 gross was equalled by Freddie Price of Hurstmere School, Sidcup but Collins (pictured)won on countback. In third place was Matt Cozens, of the Marsh Academy, New Romney, who was four shots behind.

The 11 girls included the reigning Kent Ladies’ champion Sian Evans, of Rainham Mark Grammar School, who was looking to win the title for the third successive year before heading to the US on a golf scholarship.

On the way to winning the Kent Ladies’ Championship recently, Evans had beaten Sophie Daws, of the Marsh Academy, but Daws gained her revenge by beating Sian by two shots with a four-over-par 77.
