Huge plumes of thick black smoke billowed across part of Ashford after a garden blaze broke out.
Two fire engines were called to Kennington this evening as a fire engulfed a fence and sheds.
Video footage of the incident shows crews running over to the flames as smoke billowed out from the garden.
Ashford historian Steve Salter was at the scene in Towers View and said the fire started at about 5pm.
"I am not sure how it started but it looks like a garden fire got out of control," he said.
"It destroyed sheds, fences and started to scorch the back of a house.
"It looks like it caused the windows to break. It also destroyed road signs and went up the grass verge."
Pictures show the extent of the damage including blackened wooden fences that have fallen onto the pavement.
Mr Salter added: "The smoke was billowing up across Kennington. It really has caused some significant damage."
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "We was called to a large shed and fencing alight, with flames spreading to the front of a house.
"Two fire engines attended and crews used hose reel jets, main jets, and water from a hydrant to put the fire out."
There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is not yet known.
Fire crews arrived at 5.14pm and were gone by 7pm.
