A large plume of smoke was sent into the sky from a fire near to the M20 motorway.
Three fire engines were sent to the scene in Ashford at about 3.20pm yesterday.
The fire was at a commercial premises in Sandyhurst Lane, a road that eventually runs over the carriageway.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service said it had been made aware of an outbuilding fire in the lane that was generating a smoke plume near the M20.
The service also thanked everyone who had called to report the blaze.
Speaking afterwards, a spokesman said: "Crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and compressed air foam to extinguish the flames, which broke out in a machinery store.
"It’s believed the fire started accidentally. No casualties were reported."
Crews returned to station at about 4.50pm.
