Hythe Town boss Scott Porter has demanded an improvement after laying into his players.
Porter’s frustration boiled over with Hythe trailing Burgess Hill 1-0 on Bank Holiday Monday.
They went on to concede a second before goals from Nick Barnes (57) and Craig Thompson (75) rescued a 2-2 draw at Reachfields.
Porter said: “It was one of the worst starts to a game I’ve seen for a long time.
“We were lethargic, there was no effort and I had to change things so I brought on all three substitutes.
“I went mental at half-time. If I could have used 11 substitutes, I’d have taken everyone off.
“The lads on the bench had witnessed what I’d seen so it wouldn’t have been right to give the ones who started the game another 10 minutes when they’d been so bad for 45.”
Dave Cook, Brendon Cass and Thompson were introduced as Hythe switched to 4-4-2.
All three made an impact while Porter’s outburst had the desired effect on the rest.
Porter added: “We conceded another bad goal but showed character to bounce back and in the end we should have won."
Jake Hobbs is fit again so Ronnie Dolan (thigh) is the only injury concern ahead of the game at Ryman League, Division 1 South new boys Three Bridges on Saturday.
Porter said: “It’s a must-win game for us. Draws are no good in this league so we’ve got to go there and get the points."
