Scott Porter's conviction that “you can never have too many good strikers” has been reinforced for the Hythe Town manager this week.
Although the recent signing of Jimmy Dryden (pictured) increased Porter’s attacking options to five, neck injuries to Simon Austin and Craig Thompson have left Porter with just three fully-fit front men – Dryden, Brendon Cass and Lloyd Blackman – for Saturday’s home Ryman League Division 1 South game against Walton Casuals.
The Hythe boss said: “It just goes to show that you need to have that depth of quality in your squad. That’s why I was pleased to say ‘yes’ to Jimmy when he asked if he could train with us.
“He’s a proven goalscorer and I’m sure we can get him back to his best.
“Simon’s out for a few weeks and although Thommo came on for the last 15 minutes at Chessington, he’s still got a problem.“So it’s good that I have now got someone like Jimmy to turn to.”
The 31-year-old Dryden, who scored a record 138 goals for Folkestone Invicta, opened his Hythe account with the only goal in last Saturday’s 1-0 FA Cup preliminary round victory at Chessington & Hook United.
Porter added: “The poor pitch meant it was difficult to play any good football and it was one of those games where you are just happy to get the win and then get back on the bus as quickly as possible."
