Hythe Town's Bulmers Cider Kent League title hopes all but disappeared when they were held to a 1-1 home draw by Holmesdale on Saturday.

It left VCD Athletic needing just one win from their final two games to capture the Premier Division crown.

Although Hythe started well on Saturday, forcing four corners in the opening 10 minutes, it was Holmesdale who opened the scoring in their first attack when Frank Bunani forced home Jason Thompson's 13th-minute corner at the far post.

But Hythe equalised five minutes later through Lee Winfield after Roy Guiver's initial effort had been cleared off the line.

Holmesdale then lost goalkeeper Danny Harwood through injury, with Thompson taking over in goal, but a nervy-looking Hythe were unable to capitalise despite creating several clear cut chances in the second half.

Hythe are at Slade Green in their final league game on Saturday.
