A senior Royal has expressed support for the campaign to help the Gurkhas.
Actress Joanna Lumley told a committee of MPs she had received a letter - but would not name who it was from.
She accused ministers of scare tactics for inflating the cost of allowing Gurkhas who retired before 1997 to settle in Britain.
Ms Lumley said many people had written to pledge their support for the campaign and told MPs what they said.
The issue of whether to allow more Gurkhas the right to settle in Britain is once again being considered in Westminster.
Campaigner and actress Joanna Lumley is among those who has been giving evidence to an MPs' select committee hearing.
Nearly 30 Labour rebels voted against the government on the issue last week.
