Kent's oldest paper boy has had his bike stolen.

Tony Fagg, 87, woke up this morning to find his trusted Trek Marlin 4 bicycle taken from his garden in Stanhope, Ashford.

Mr Fagg, who is affectionately labelled Grandad by almost everyone who knows him, uses the bike to deliver papers across the town.

His grandson Chak Ng, who put out an appeal on social media, said that the police had been informed but his grandfather "just wants his bike back".

"It was taken between 7.30pm and 8.30pm last night, we have passed the CCTV on to police," he said.

"It's a standard black marlin 4, but it means a lot to grandad – the poor guy has only had it a couple of months.

"We have informed police, but if it is brought back to myself or to him we won't take further action, he just wants his bike back."

This is the second time Mr Fagg has had a bike stolen recently, following his long tenure as a paper boy in town.

The octogenarian has spent the last 22 years supplying various papers to residents from McColls on the estate.

He is believed to be the oldest paper boy in Kent, and the second in Britain by only six months.

Speaking to KentOnline last month, Mr Fagg said: "I think that I am the oldest in Kent, certainly. I know a few people have claimed to be before, but I'm pretty sure I'm older than all of them.

"I enjoy doing it, I've got out in rain and snow... and they've always got their papers!"
