EDWIN BOORMAN: retained his licence

THE chairman of the Kent Messenger Group, Edwin Boorman, has been given six penalty points after he was clocked driving at more than 100mph on the M20 motorway.

Mr Boorman, deputy lieutenant of Kent and a former High Sheriff of the county, pleaded guilty to speeding near Ashford in May.

Magistrates at Ashford fined him £500 and ordered him to pay £35 costs. But he kept his licence after the bench decided not to disqualify him.

Mr Boorman, 69, from Wateringbury, near Maidstone, was driving to the Kent coast with his wife to see their grandchildren when police recorded his BMW speeding at 101.36mph.

Addressing the magistrates, he said: "As you heard earlier, my third name is Pratt and I have been one on this occasion.

"I have been driving 50 years and I am ashamed to say that magistrates have had to speak to me on two occasions about my driving."
