A CCTV image of a robber who threatened a filling station cashier with a knife has been released by police.

The incident happened at the Shell garage in North Street, Ashford, on Friday, anuary 26, at around 10pm.

The cashier was locking up when a man entered the shop brandishing a knife and demanded money from the till.

The employee, who was on his own in the shop, did as he was instructed and was forced behind the till area where the attacker stole cash and tobacco. The robber left the shop and ran off in the direction of Hardinge Road.

He is described a white, about 6ft tall, 30-32 years old and wearing a black hat with a towel across his face, a white jacket and black bottoms.

Police are appealing for any information about the incident. PC Eddie Evans said: “This was a calculated act where the suspect waited around the corner until the member of staff started to close the shop.

"When he saw his opportunity he used unnecessary violence upon a terrified member of staff. I am extremely keen to speak with anyone who may have passed the Shell garage at this time who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously or waiting around the side of the garage”.
