The Ashford carnival parade will have a Latin flavour on Sunday.
The carnival parade looks likely to be one of the most spectacular for many years with more than 40 entries already confirmed.
Dancers involved in London’s famous Notting Hill Carnival will be taking part, thanks to the Shiva Nova/Equator project.
They will be appearing alongside the Carnival Courts of Ashford, Lydd, Sheppey, Deal and Margate.
There are also unique entrants this year in the form of Aldington Soap Box Derby with around 20 soapboxes taking part including a Batmobile Soapbox and the Ashford Model Supply Centre will be bringing along 20 radio controlled cars.
There are also a range of businesses entering this year with floats from Ashbridge Domestic Appliances, kmfm, Lighter Life, Local Life, My Home Window Cleaning Service, the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, Great Chart Golf Club Bears, D&D Autos, Credibles Kitchens and the Oopsy Daisy Playbus.
The parade will form and be judged on the Stanhope Ring Road at 3pm, with the procession setting off at 4pm.
It will make its way from Stanhope, along Kingsnorth Road, Beaver Road, Elwick Road, into Bank Street and the High Street, then across Station Road to North Park.
Carnival organisers Mike and Amanda Chappell are very excited about their first year heading the Carnival Association, and look forward to building on the event which had previously been run for 35 years by Brenda and Terry Dickinson.
They have thanked Kent Link Transport for supplying vehicles and drivers, the Ashford Town Centre Partnership for administering the event and Youth in Action who are helping to marshal the event.
