The mystery of strange lights in the sky a fortnight ago could have been solved.
Last week the Kentish Express reported how 15 or 16 strange orange lights were seen above Wye and over the TA Barracks, Chart Road between 7.30pm and 8pm on Wednesday, March 18.
But, that evening the family and friends Daisy Washington, who died in a car crash in February, 2007 aged 14, met and lit Chinese lanterns as it would have been Daisy’s 17th birthday.
The group met at Cineworld on Eureka Park, as that is where Daisy, who went to Swadelands School, used to meet her friends.
They got together between 7.15pm and 7.30pm and released about 25 lanterns which floated off in the direction of the motorway.
Daisy’s mother Karen Washington, who lives in Repton Manor Road, is amused that the memorial to Daisy caused a mystery.
Mrs Washington said: “I saw the lanterns on holiday and bought about 100. We let off the lanterns and balloons and were really pleased to see them lift off and travel up and away so well.”
