Power cut at Ashford International Station

The lights went out at the Ashford International Station today.

The power cut also saw the information boards go down, and the ticket office was closed.

Staff helped passengers around the station's darkened subways with torches. It is not believed that the power outage affected train services.

The power cut affected more than 1,000 homes across the town following a fault on the underground electricity network.

UK Power Networks said their engineers worked quickly to restore supplies and rerouted power to the majority of the homes by 3pm.

However, there are still 180 homes in Essella Road currently without power.

A spokesman said: "We understand how difficult it is being without electricity and apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused."

Earlier today, in a separate incident, a Eurostar train broke down near the Ashford International Station for 20 minutes.

A spokesman said: "A technical fault on one of our trains meant that it was held on the line close to Ashford station, but it is now on the move again."
