Lisa Dobriskey insists there will be no more dramas at next week’s European Championships as the Ashford athlete bids to add another medal to her collection.
Two years ago 1,500m star Dobriskey suffered Olympic heartache in Beijing as she started her sprint finish 10 yards too late and finished outside the medals.
It was a different story last year as, despite concerns she would miss the World Championships through injury, Dobriskey returned from Berlin with a silver medal.
The 26-year-old finished a disappointing third at the Aviva UK Championships and European Trials and was not guaranteed selection for Barcelona but after getting the nod from Aviva GB & NI head coach Charles van Commenee and running a sub four-minute time at the Diamond League meeting in Paris – her 3min 59.79sec being the third-fastest in Europe this year – Dobriskey will arrive in form.
She said: "Both this year and last year have been complete dramas and they haven’t been straight forward and have always been a bit of last-gasp dash to get on the team.
"Doubts did start creeping in as to whether I would go at all and I had to turn things around quickly but thankfully I’m going.
"I ran close to my personal best at the Diamond League meet in Paris on July 16 and I’m starting to be where I need to be. It is podium or nothing for me – it is going to be tough and the field at the Europeans is going to be strong."
Aviva’s support, both at home and abroad, is helping the team prepare to compete at their best. Watch the Aviva GB & NI live in action at the Aviva London Grand Prix. For more details visit aviva.co.uk/athletics
