The coastbound M20 has reopened following a crash involving two cars.
Emergency services had been at the scene of the incident close to Junction 9 for Ashford.
National Highways warned when the road reopened there was still about five miles of congestion on approach, causing delays of up to 90 minutes – though this has now cleared.
Traffic had been held under the Canterbury Road A28 bridge, with lengthy queues building up in the hours since the carriageway first closed.
Recovery vehicles were spotted at the scene shortly after 5pm, and all lanes have now reopened.
A police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called at 3.29pm on Wednesday 20 December to a report of a collision involving a car on the coastbound stretch of the M20 motorway in Ashford, between junctions nine and 10.
“Officers are at the scene, along with South East Coast Ambulance Service who are treating occupants of the car for injuries.”
