Long queues as A28 Canterbury Road closed from Magazine Road to Simone Weil Avenue in Ashford for electrical works

Traffic is queuing on the A28 as roadworks set to last 11 days have started, causing a headache for motorists coming in and out of Ashford.

Engineers from UK Power Networks have closed the stretch of A2042 Canterbury Road between Magazine Road and Simone Weil Avenue while new electrical connections are carried out.

It is causing long delays for drivers, particularly on Canterbury Road through Kennington with traffic backed up past Bybrook Road towards the town.

The road was closed for the first time this morning and works are set to last 11 days until Friday, July 26.

A diversion is in place via the A28 Simone Weil Avenue, the A292 Maidstone Road, the A292 New Street, Somerset Road, North Street and Canterbury Road and vice versa.

Those living in Heathfield Road are still able to access their homes.

The no right turn rule onto Canterbury Road from Magazine Road has been temporarily suspended while works are carried out.
