Queues in Hythe Road, Ashford due to temporary traffic lights

Drivers plagued by a host of summer roadworks are seeing their journeys disrupted even further on a major stretch.

Motorists using Hythe Road in Ashford have been hit with long queues since Tuesday this week, after SGN engineers installed temporary traffic lights while gasworks are carried out.

The lights have been placed between Sprotlands Avenue and Earls Avenue and are causing a headache for many commuters, with work set to last a further nine days until next Friday, August 9.

There have been heavy queues heading past Clive Dennis Court and towards the Norton Knatchbull School, and one motorist reported it is causing her to face delays of almost 20 minutes as she bids to join Junction 10 of the M20 further along the road.

Pedestrians have also faced difficulty walking along the road with part of the footpath shut outside Christ Church on the corner of Albemarle Road.

Ashford residents previously told KentOnline the town is clogged up with diversions and closures, with some journeys now taking three times longer in some parts.

They argue it is far worse than other places in the county.

Prior to this week’s delays, SGN engineers also installed temporary traffic lights outside the Kennington Tandoori in Faversham Road last Wednesday (July 24).

They are to remain in place until September 7.
